Maltby Marketing News for December 19

Hello Kansas Wheat.

Brr! Low temps with very little snow cover in generally too dry conditions can’t be good for dormant winter wheat.

Record low temps in Kansas in prime wheat acreage country Sunday morning…

I personally believe it’s very hard (almost impossible) to kill enough winter wheat in December to make a measurable difference, but these temps were crazy low.
Was some wheat killed? Absolutely.
How much? We don’t know for sure, but I’d bet these temps were low enough to do significantly more damage than normal.
Will the markets react? Probably not much…but in my opinion, this event should not be ignored.
