Russian Wheat Exports Up 90% at 4.6 Mil Mt in Marketing Year to August 8

Russian wheat exports between the start of the marketing year on July 1 and August 8 were 4.63 million mt, up 90% on the year, Russian Agriculture Ministry data showed Monday. The faster pace than last year reflects an earlier-than-usual harvest as a result of hot, dry weather, which prompted farmers to begin much earlier than expected to minimize heat and drought damage to crops.

Australia’s June Wheat Exports at 1.35 Mt Down 6 Pct From May

Australia’s wheat exports in June at 1.35 million tonnes (Mt) were down 6 percent from the May figure of 1.44Mt, according to the latest export data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The drop in total bulk and containerised shipments of Australian wheat has not shown signs of limitation caused by a string of cargoes making their way from the export-focused states of Western Australia and South Australia to drought-hit eastern states.

Roundup Cancer Verdict Sends Bayer Shares Sliding

Bayer (BAYGn.DE) shares plunged as much as 14 percent on Monday, losing about $14 billion in value, after newly acquired Monsanto was ordered to pay $289 million in damages in the first of possibly thousands of U.S. lawsuits over alleged links between a weedkiller and cancer. After the verdict in favor of a California school groundskeeper with terminal cancer, Monsanto faces more than 5,000 similar lawsuits across the United States over claims it did not warn of the cancer risks of glyphosate-based weedkillers, including its Roundup brand.
