Summary
The 2018 U.S. hard red spring (HRS) harvest has ended and only about 3% of the durum crop remains in the field. All HRS samples are in the lab with final report on this very good crop, graded No 1 DNS. Only a few samples of durum are left to analyze and 11 more samples bumped up average 1000-kernel weight from 40.4 gm to 40.7 gm, with otherwise little to no change in average ratings in the very good durum crop.

“That is my son Brad in the photograph seeding on Rich Kortge Farms (in Wasco Co., Ore.), only about five miles east of where the Substation Fire started. This field had been left fallow last season but the vegetative cover was lost to the fire. The field in the background to the left of the fence was standing wheat that went up in flames on July 17.”
“It has not rained in months here and the seeding conditions look a little bleak. But you know farmers. Maybe next year…”
