Take advantage of winter crops education!

Several opportunities to learn about the University of Minnesota’s research in crop production are available at locations throughout the state this winter. Crop producers, their advisers and other ag professionals are encouraged to attend. The following events are listed in chronological order. Research Updates for Ag Professionals

At the Updates, you will find research-based strategies to deal with today’s changing pests, diseases, varieties, and nutrient and environmental recommendations.  CCA-CEUs are available. Research Update schedule follows:

Winter Crops Days (Southern Research and Outreach Center)

Hear the latest in establishing and managing cover crops and potassium fertilizaer management from University of Minnesota Extension and UM Southern Research and Outreach experts.

Winter Crops Days will be held at two southern Minnesota locations: Waseca and Rochester, both on January 18.

Small grain update and PPAT

Attend this combined program covering small grain production, pest management and pesticide recertification topics. The combination program will be offered at five locations in 2019 beginning January 21. Other locations will be offering the Small grains update as a stand-alone program.

Strategic Farming workshops

The Strategic farming: Maximizing return on investment workshops, presented by University of Minnesota Extension and funded by Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council, will be offered at eleven locations throughout Minnesota from January 22 through March 12.

The workshops will provide up-to-date soybean production strategies to help you maximize the return on your investment (ROI) in soil fertility, soybean aphid management, seed and technology traits, fungicide use and more.

Nitrogen Smart

Nitrogen Smart is a training program for producers that presents fundamentals for maximizing economic return on nitrogen investments while minimizing nitrogen losses. Participants that complete this program receive certification good for three years.

It will be held in four locations from January 28 to January 31: RochesterWaseca, St. Cloud and Lamberton.

2019 Nitrogen Conference

The 2019 Nitrogen Conference will be held Tuesday, February 5 in Mankato at the Verizon Wireless Center. This is the 5th annual event, bringing experts to focus entirely on that valuable input. Current topics in crop production and environmental stewardship will be relevant and informative for today’s agricultural producers and professionals.

Best of the Best in Wheat and Soybean Research

Growers will learn the latest in wheat and soybean production from researchers and extension specialists in this day-long workshop. Best of the Best will be offered in two locations in 2019: Grand Forks, North Dakota on February 14 and Moorhead, Minnesota on February 15.

Winter Crops Days

Southwest Research and Outreach Centers will be presenting Crops Day on February 13 in Lamberton. For more information, visit SWROC events.

Nutrient Management Conference

The 11th Annual Nutrient Management Conference will be held on February 19 at the Best Western Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. Sessions will cover challenges in phosphorus and sulfur management, nitrogen applications under irrigation, and effects of phosphorus availability due to residue management.
