Minnesota Wheat Seeks Candidates for Executive Director


The Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council (MWRPC) and the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers (MAWG) are seeking candidates to succeed long-time Executive Director Dave Torgerson. Torgerson, announced his retirement in January. After serving the two organizations and Minnesota wheat growers for over 30 years, Torgerson will retire on March 31, 2019.

The MWRPC and the MAWG work together as Minnesota Wheat, in a unified, focused, and effective manner to improve the profitability of the Minnesota wheat industry. From research and educational programs to lobbying in Washington and St. Paul, their missions are to build programs that have long-lasting impact for Minnesota wheat growers.

Together the MWRPC and the MAWG are seeking an Executive Director to serve as the principal administrator of both organizations, collaborating and building consensus on strategic direction for both groups. This highly-varied role involves working closely with growers, industry partners, research programs, and developing and implementing educational programs for farmers. This hands-on leadership role is not leading from behind a desk, but rather involves making connections and executing programs across the state.

Candidates for Executive Director should bring a passion for agriculture with a proven ability to lead with a rolled-up sleeves approach. Candidates must be able to build relationships and leverage resources to develop impactful initiatives for Minnesota’s large 1.5 million-acre wheat industry.

The MWRPC and MAWG are statewide organizations based in Red Lake Falls, in the heart of Minnesota’s wheat-growing region.
