PROJECT LEAD

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The position of Project Lead is a dynamic role with a variety from day-to-day.  This position works in three primary areas: 1) Agronomy/Research 2) Communications/Coordination and 3) Office Support.   This position reports to the Executive Director and is an integral part of a four-person team.  This position is employed by the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotional Council (MWRPC) and will also work on projects for the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers (MAWG).  The two organizations together (MWRPC + MAWG) are unofficially referred to as MN Wheat. This is a full-time position with competitive compensation and benefits. Salary will vary depending on experience.

Agronomy/Research

The Project Lead works directly with the VP of Research and the On-Farm Research Network to assist with field trials, data collection, and soliciting new participants.  Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Calling growers and developing relationships to increase involvement and engage growers to participate in trials offered through MN Wheat’s On-Farm Research Network.
  • Collect stand assessments, soil and tissue samples, and other in-season field data
  • Record and enter field data
  • Coordinating with growers to setup and harvest plots via phone, text, and/or email
  • Transport and operate a weigh wagon at harvest to collect yield data and grain samples
  • Promote/Sell the On-Farm Research Network to growers, industry, and the public

Communications/Coordination

The Project Lead works to manage MN Wheat’s social media accounts and information on the website.  This position works directly with the VP of Operations to coordinate, promote, and execute key programing of MN Wheat which may include Prairie Grains Conference, Small Grains Update, Best of the Best, the Ag Peer Group, and the Golf Tournament.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Social Media Management for both the MN Wheat Growers and Council
  • Coordinating posts to the MN Wheat website
  • Work with staff, vendors, sponsors, and contributors to plan and execute premier events
  • Participate in weekly staff/team meetings
  • Soliciting and managing sponsorships for MN Wheat program events

Office Support

The Project Lead assists in the day-to-day operations of MN Wheat.  These activities include answering the phone, working with our accounting firm and auditors to upload needed documents, perform regular bank deposits, and submit expense reports.  This is a key position for managing membership for the Grower Association and Check-Off remittances for the MWRPC.  Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Conduct deposits for MAWG and the MWRPC
  • Process MAWG membership
  • Process MWRPC remittances
  • Upload accounts payable
  • Write Grant Contracts
  • Manage grant contract timelines
  • Assemble Board of Directors books for Board Meetings
  • Manage Board of Directors travel logs and expense reports
